Our Coronavirus Update

Hi friends. We have been in Istanbul, Turkey for just over a week. This city is beautiful and charming, and a great place to be during this Coronavirus madness. Until yesterday, there were no confirmed cases in Turkey; today there is 1 confirmed case and likely many more. Turkey acted early and quickly to close borders with Iran, implement thermal imaging at the airports, and install sanitizing stations at bus and metro stops. We feel good about being here, and we’re planning to wait this out in Turkey for a while before figuring out our next steps.

We have no plans to come home, but we are staying vigilant and safe. We are staying in more than going out; if we go to a tourist site, we do not go over the weekend but on a Monday or Tuesday when crowds are at a minimum; and we are washing our hands and the kids’ hands incessantly. Lucky for us, the stores here continue to be well stocked with soap and hand sanitizer (and water and toilet paper).

While here, we discovered the ancient Turkish art of paper marbling (known locally as Ebru), and we’ve been making patterned paper to pass the time.

Stay safe and healthy! x

  1. Hello Leemore

Thank you for the update . . . I was wondering how you and the family were handling this situation while traveling. Good to hear Istanbul took the is “Pandemic” more seriously and took action faster than the US (not surprising).

Be safe, praying this virus is contained soon.

PS: I did cancel my trip to Singapore and Princess cancelled the cruise. Thank you again for your input.

    Blessings
    Helen
